Description

NEANN NIEJ (Immobilisation & Extrication Jacket)

The NEANN Immobilisation & Extrication Jacket (NIEJ) is cervical splint and extrication device is the standard extrication jacket in the Queensland and NSW Ambulance Services replacing the aging and outdated KED.

Designed and manufactured by RAPP Australia Pty Ltd, the NIEJ combines many of the best features of current extrication jackets on the market and removes many of the common complaints of users.

Development of the design involved using the latest research in spinal management to provide an extremely effective and easy to apply cervical splint/extrication device. A large range of improvements have been made over the original extrication jackets.

Dimension of the NIEJ stored is:

  • Length 83.0 cm
  • Height 13.0 cm
  • Width 26.0 cm

Dimension of the NIEJ fully opened is:

  • Length 81.0 cm
  • Height 2.0 cm
  • Width 86.0 cm

Weight:

  • Weight of the NIEJ is 4.5 kg including storage bag

Safe Working Load:

  • The safe working load of the NIEJ is 130.0 kg.

As all plastic side release buckles on Cervical Extrication Device (CEDs) are not rated for weight bearing by the manufacturers of such devices, it is estimated that each side release buckle has a 65.0 kg non dynamic (static) load bearing limit. Therefore with two groin straps, the safe working load of the NIEJ and all other CEDs using side release buckles can only be rated to a safe working load of 130.0 kg.

For technical rescue situations requiring vertical lifts above the 2 m as specified in the Australian Standards – Prevention Of Falls 2007, it is recommended that a twin rope system be used for such rescue with a second harness that complies with the Australian Standard – Harness and Lifelines 1891.1.
